Potomac Watershed Cleanup Day
[view photos]On Saturday, April 8, Key Clubbers went to Sligo Creek park to help the Friends of Sligo Creek clean up the watershed area and near the beltway. We filled more than 7 bags of trash, finding everything from plastic bottles, cans, styrofoam, paper, and plenty more. We really learned the value of hard work and also to never litter again! Thanks to Ashley, Cal, Jeff, Joe, Rose, Vince, and Yoyo for coming!

Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade
[view photos]Dogs, pandas, and penguins, oh my!! At the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade on November 19th, Key Clubbers saw all these animals (some of them fake and filled with air) and participated by dressing up in penguin regalia (with a beak and all) and guidiing the giant penguin balloon through the streets of downtown Silver Spring. We learned tricks on how to hold the balloon and walked through the streets, waving to bystanders. At the end of the road, we deflated the balloon and helped pack the penguin back into its initial dwelling, where it will wait again until next year. Thanks to Kangxi, Weiling, Xiaowen, Lois, Benson, Dang, Whitney, Ben, Yoyo, Anjali and Vince for coming out to volunteer!

Ghost Train
[view photos]On Friday, October 28 2005, we went to Wheaton Regional Park for their annual Ghost Train festival. We hid in the woods and by the graveyard to scare kids as their Ghost Train passed by. Although it was really cold out, it was really fun dressing up as goblins, ghouls, witches and the like and making a child's experience more fun.

Oktoberfest
[view photos]On Saturaday, Octiber 1, 2005, KeyClubbers participated in the first activity of the year, the Germantown Oktoberfest! We helped out with kid's games (monitoring moonbounces, moon-jousting, spin art, obstacle courses), blew up balloons, helped kids paint pumpkins, handed out fliers, kept track of how many people came in buses, and much more. We also had a blast eating free food and watching fireworks at the end! We had a tremendous turnout, thanks to Yoyo, Jung, Rose, Cal, Ben, Monika, Charlotte, Phi, Whitney, Sara, Rohit, Ding, James, Samarth, Nick, Balaji, Luke, Benson and Vince for coming out.

Carnival of Chocolates
[view photos]On Saturday, April 3, 2005, Key Club participated in the Carnival of Chocolates, a fun-raising event for the Dwelling Place, a homeless shelter. Ardent participants Jung, Jojo, Ashley, and Kate pasted inserts in the programs, helped set up the tables and started serving cake. We also snacked a little (who can resist?) before cleaning up the dishes, putting away tables, taking out the endless supply of trash, and checking coats.

St. Patrick's Day Parade
[view photos]On Saturday, March 12, 2005, Key Club participated in the St. Patrick's Parade in Gaithersburg. We helped set up booths, guided traffic, and participated in the parade. Thanks to Kathy, Jung, Ben, Yoyo, Rose, Soraya, and Wen for coming! Wen and Ben were even the stars of the show! Go see their pictures :)

Manna Food
[view photos]On Monday, February 21, 2005, Key Club helped pack food at the Manna Food Center. We distributed canned, bagged, and dried foods into boxes and loaded the boxes in preparation for shipment to families, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and emergency assistance organizations around Montgomery County. Thanks to Kathy, Lois, Ben, Siwei for coming! It was a lot of hard work, but seeing the boxes full of food was a great feeling!

Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade
[view photos]On Saturday, November 20, 2004, Key Club members participated in the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade in Silver Spring. Thanks to Abi, Min, Jung, Wen, Yoyo, and Soraya for coming to the event. We helped out with setting up and carried around huge (and heavy) floats during the parade. Some of us also dressed up!

Help the Homeless Walkathon
[view photos]On Saturday, November 20, 2004, Key Club members participated in the Help the Homeless Walkathon at the National Mall in DC. Thanks to Amelia, Kathy, Wilma, and Phyllis for coming to the event. We walked a total of 2k (it feels a lot longer than it sounds!) and by corporate funding, "donated" a total of $200. It was very successful despite a hectic beginning. We also received nice shirts and snacks.

Walk for Hope
[view photos]On Saturday, October 10, 2004, Key Club participated in the Walk for Hope Against Breast Cancer at Cabin John Park. Thanks to Abby, Wilma, Kate, Kathy, and Lois for coming to the event. We had a lot of fun passing out materials, setting up tables, directing traffic and runners, etc. We also got really neat t-shirts and yummy food (Starbucks lattes!).
